Cars torched in Somerton lot

Police are investigating a deliberately set fire that raced through 24 empty cars in Somerton early Tuesday.

The fire marshal’s office found the cause of the blaze on the property of a metal-fabricating company on the 10000 block of Sandmeyer Lane to be incendiary, Executive Fire Chief Richard Davison said Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters got the call to go to Rhoads Industries at 3:48 a.m. Tuesday, Davison said. He said the fire was under control by 4:12 a.m. No one was injured, he said.

Sandmeyer Lane intersects Red Lion Road and curves next to the old Island Green golf course and ends in a cul-de-sac. ••
